Panorama Flight Park, a private airfield established during 1980 situated in Alberton, South of Johannesburg was founded when two friends Gary Holmes and Bill Anderson who had both trained to fly Trikes at Bapsfontein decided they wanted a field closer to home.

Situated just outside Alberton on the Swartkoppies road on the way to Eikenhof. it grew from one hangar to where today its home to many passionate aviators. It houses over 50 aicraft, trikes, fixed wings and gyros and sports three runways, a clubhouse as well as a flying school.

Saturday was a typical late October summer day with lovely sunshine and clear skies. Even though it was a bit windy almost thirty aircraft arrived.

It was wonderful to see quite a few weight shifts most of which I was told flew in from Klipriver Airfield, just a short hop from Panorama.

The two Aviatika's that flew in from Brakpan attracted quite a lot of attention. Others from the same field was Hilton Wolf's Mushack and Rob Osner in his fully loaded Allo III. I think Rob must have lost counts long ago of the number of people that he has offered lifts to. All in all, it was a good mix of types and some stunning examples of general aviation aircraft

The lovely shaded area was the ideal meeting place for breakfast and to swap stories. Just outside Alberton and south of Johannesburg and a short hob to Tedderfield and historical Baragwaneth this gem of a field is well worth a visit.
Our thanks to the Panorama team for their warm hospitality and another memorable fly-in.
